Elections 2007
Papers
must be received by 12 noon on Tuesday the 8th May
PCS Democrats will be
running a strong and experienced team of candidates in the 2007
National Executive Committee (NEC) elections, standing with Left
Unity as part of the Democracy Alliance coalition. There is real
value in bringing together a broad based leadership for PCS to represent
you.
Over the last 4 years, the Democracy Alliance leadership has ensured
that PCS has grown into a strong, financially sound, member led
union. We have always listened to your concerns and consult you
on the key issues that affect you – Pay, Jobs and Pensions.
The influence of PCS Democrats in the Democracy Alliance has made
negotiations a priority for the union. This has been clearly demonstrated
in the successes we have achieved on Pensions, sick pay and equal
pay.
But leading PCS is also about making difficult decisions. Unlike
some of our opponents, PCS Democrats and our Left Unity partners
were not afraid to begin the major campaign we started on 31st January.
We did not embark on this route lightly or without consulting you
fully. We know only too well that members do not want to lose a
day’s pay for no good reason.
Equally, we did not believe that we could stand by and do nothing
while jobs were lost, pay increases for 2006 were not being concluded
or were imposed and some members were faced with redundancy notices.
This dispute cannot be concluded without a fair, negotiated settlement.
The settlement ought to include:
guarantees on no compulsory redundancies;
proper pay progression;
an end to unfair pay systems;
decent pay rises which at least match the cost of living;
protection for members faced with privatisation and outsourcing.
All of these things can
be agreed. All of these issues are what many good employers are
already doing. We have set out a clear negotiating, campaigning,
Parliamentary and political. And, if necessary, we should use further
industrial action in the coming months aimed to achieve that settlement.
PCS Democrats and our Democracy Alliance partners will ensure that
you receive up to date reports on any progress in negotiations and
that you have a say in the way the campaign is progressing. The
campaign is the major piece of activity underway in PCS. PCS Democrats
recognise that part of winning that campaign is about making certain
that PCS is a well organised and financially strong union. PCS must
be a union that is able to represent you nationally but is also
able to represent you locally when you need help in the workplace.
The Democracy Alliance led NEC has ensured that organising and training
our representatives has been a cornerstone of the work we take forward
in Branches.
PCS Democrats stand for grown up politics that recognises no one
faction has all the correct solutions. PCS Democrats urge you to
nominate and then support Democracy Alliance candidates in the 2007
NEC Elections. Members need a leadership that continues to prove
it can deliver for you.
