Elections 2008
PCS Democrats are again
standing with Left Unity as part of the Democracy Alliance coalition.
PCS members need a strong,
influential union capable of standing up to the employer in defence
of their interests – that is why it is vital to re-elect the
Democracy Alliance National Executive Committee (NEC). The current
Democracy Alliance NEC has worked hard, negotiating from a position
of strength, to defend members’ interests in the private sector,
including:
DEFENDING HARD WON GAINS
Successfully campaigned
to defend the Final Salary pension scheme in Siemens
Campaigned against
the off-shoring of National Savings work by Siemens leading to an
agreement widely recognised as the best secured by a UK trade union
– and a guarantee that there will be no compulsory redundancies
until 2014
Ran a campaign that saved more than 150 jobs at Capgemini
Successfully campaigned for the defence of civil service ‘reserved
rights’
Used the threat of industrial action to force EDS management running
the DWP contract to honour the pay progression they’d inherited
from the DWP
Forced EDS in Glasgow
to reinstate the Child Care Vouchers, a key term and condition for
many staff
Successfully defended reps facing victimisation
EXTENDING OUR INFLUENCE - WINNING RIGHTS AND RECOGNITION FOR
ALL WORKERS
Secured collective bargaining rights for all staff on the new Haden
Office Services contract in DWP
Ran a successful organising campaign on the Capita Filestores contract
which resulted in the branch being the fastest-growing in PCS.
Launched a campaign to win collective bargaining rights for all
workers on the HMRC Aspire contract in Capgemini
Won a pay rise for agency staff working at EDS in Glasgow
Won the right for newer employees to join the PCS bargaining
unit in Siemens – these workers immediately received an average
pay increase of 15%, and will receive a further 9% this year
Currently developing a Works Council strategy so that we can use
these harmful employer bodies to our advantage
At the forefront of building international links with sister trade
unions in Capgemini, Siemens, EDS, Atos Origin and other companies
Undertaking a Commercial Sector Review to ensure PCS represents
commercial sector members as effectively as possible
